Decoration for the Election of Ferdinand I

After the forced abdication of Alexander I. Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha left Austria on August 9th 1887 and was installed 14th August 1887 as the Prince of Bulgaria and created his first award.

THE 1887 DECORATION CONSISTS OF FIVE CLASSES
1st Class Badge This badge is similar to the above picture but with with the arms of the cross in green enamel and gilded. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon.These were mostly awarded to Heads of State and very rare.

2nd Class Badge This badge is similar to the above picture but with with the arms of the cross in green enamel and in silver. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon.These were mostly awarded to Diplomats and Dignitaries also very rare.

3rd Class Badge This badge is similar to the above picture but with with no green enamel in the arms of the cross and in silver gilt. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon.These were mostly awarded to Officers etc. Only 699 awarded.

4th Class Badge This badge is similar to 3rd Class above with with no green enamel in the arms of the cross and in silver. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon.These were mostly awarded to NCO's etc. Only 1019 awarded.

5th Class Badge This badge is similar to 3rd Class above with with no green enamel in the arms of the cross and in bronze. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon.These were mostly awarded to OR's etc. Only 475 awarded.
