Military Order for Bravery 1897-1914 (1st Type)

The Order was established by Alexander I in January 1880 although the foundation date of the Order was 29th April 1879. This was the first Bulgarian Order to be founded and to be awarded for exceptional acts of bravery in the field.

THE 1897-1914 ORDER CONSISTS OF FOUR BASIC CLASSES PLUS THE GRAND CROSS
Grand Cross Badge & Breast Star The badge is suspended from the neck on a chain and in addition from a sash and worn with the Grand Cross Star on the left breast. The Badge and Star was also awarded with Skulls on the swords and some with diamonds. These were mostly awarded to Heads of State and very rare

1st Class This badge is suspended from the neck on a ribbon and in addition a Breast Star which is without the crown and with a pin back to be worn on the left breast.

2nd Class This badge is slightly smaller and suspended from the neck on a ribbon and worn without the breast star

3rd Class This badge is similar to the above but with a crown. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon

4th Class This badge is similar to the above in red emanel but without a crown. It is worn suspended from the left breast on a ribbon

4th Class Civil This badge is similar the 4th Class above but without the swords for civil courage.

Also the award contained four further classes for NCO's (The Cross to the Order)
1st Class The cross is similar to the 4th class Order but with no enamel and of gilded silver and worn with a bow on the ribbon

2nd Class This cross is identical to the 1st class cross in gilded silver but without the bow

3rd Class The cross is identical to the 1st class cross with a bow but in silver

4th Class The cross is identical to the 3rd class cross but without the bow<
